Workshop at La Cambre – Bruxelles
Thibaud Tissot is giving a workshop at La Cambre, École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels in Bruxelles, Belgium.

Workshop at the HEAD – Geneva
Nicolas Bourquin is giving a workshop at the Geneva University of Art and Design – HEAD (Haute École d'Art et de Design). The event is part of a weekly programm of 5 different workshops in the field of the visual communication (graphic design, typography, illustration, photography).

onlab Summer School – Berlin
In the past few years onlab has been teaching as visiting professors in several universities and art schools in Europe. This year we are starting our own Summer School in Berlin.
Practical discourse is of special interest to us. Hence, the Summer School is set to establish the missing link between academic teaching and professional practice.
This year's Summer School is in fact an editorial office that carries out the entire process from content production to editorial design and pre-press within 10 intensive days. The result will be published by etc. publications and distributed worldwide. We will deal with all categories of editorial production ranging from content editing to design, illustration, data visualization, photography, production and distribution. Nicolas Bourquin and Thibaud Tissot will be guiding the participants in collaboration with professionals from these fields. In addition we will hold a public event where we invite international guest speakers to discuss the topic in a cross-disciplinary panel.
The topic of the first Summer School is 'chronology of a failure'. We will examine a particular failure of the global community which will be specified in more detail on the first day of the workshop. 21 participants will work on 7 different aspects of the topic. Every participant will receive 5-10 copies of the resulting publication once printed!

Graphic Design in Romandie – Geneva
Exhibition, Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève
Opening: 24.03.2011, 18:00
onlab is invited to participate to "Panorama", exhibition curated by Schönherwehrs and dedicated to the practices as well as recent productions in graphic design in Romandie (French part of Switzerland).
Panorama invites the spectator to explore the little known graphic landscape of this region – its diversity and local specificities, as well as to discover its relation with other fields of contemporary culture.
With: Billy Ben, Georges Calame, Flavia Cocchi, DIY, Fageta, Federal, Gavillet + Rust, Happy Pets, Martin Hoberli, Werner Jecker, Koerner Union, League, Madame Paris, Maximage, Notter + Vigne, onlab, Roger Pfund, Schaffter Sahli, Schönherwehrs, Superbüro, Renato Zalli, Aris Zenone
"Panorama" affirms graphic design as a cultural asset whose practice cannot be reduced to its commercial aims. By modulating the way people see their culture, graphic design shapes the values of that culture. The exhibition intends to increase the public’s and professionals’ awareness of these stakes and raise the burning questions of the moment.

The linocuts developed and produced for the book Smart Surfaces and their Application in Architecture and Design to visualise components, processes, production methods or application of diverse surfaces. A limited edition of linoprints and silkprint posters is available for purchase.

Datendruck – Basel
Workshop about data visualisation and screen printing at Hyperwerk (FHNW Basel) hosted by Nicolas Bourquin and Sven Ehmann.
General knowledge about the world is growing more and more complex - in the small scale as much as in larger scales. More data is accumulated and published everyday and faster than ever. The challenge is to collect, understand, evaluate, interpret and edit data in a way that is understandable for a large public. A new job profile is emerging between disciplines like statistics, journalism, programming and design. Essential impulses for a new, visual language originate from design which makes it an exciting domain for us to explore.
Screen printing offers constraints, focusing and opportunities at the same time. We want to use this technique to give the realization of data visualizations an additional quality.
