And so we have survived the most delirious experiment conducted with the most expensive scientific equipment in the history of humankind. The prophets of gloom have been belied, along with their dire forebodings of a probable end of the world following the experiment. A black hole, they warned, would swallow up us and all our baubles.

Carried out in Geneva on 10 September last at 4.28am, that experiment simulated the state of the universe one trillionth of a second after the big bang. (...) It only remains to photographer Maximilien Brice to visualise this long-repeated confusion between imagination - scientific in this case - and reality. In the light of that confusion the greatest project (architecturally speaking) in progress today seems like yet another, modest, humdrum episode in an old story: the construction of an artificial universe, already begun millions of years ago and still far from complete.
